About Uniswap (UNI)

Uniswap is a decentralized exchange (DEX) built on the Ethereum blockchain that enables users to trade and swap their ERC-20 tokens for another on a non-custodial basis and without an intermediary.

Launched in 2018, traders on Uniswap can swap their assets and add tokens to a liquidity pool to earn fees without the need for a third party or middleman. Since its launch, Uniswap has become the most widely used decentralized application on the Ethereum blockchain.

All trades are done on-chain using an Ethereum-based wallet like Metamask and use Ether (ETH) to pay for transaction fees. This eliminates the need for the deposit of tokens to the exchange and reduces the security risk as the tokens are kept in a non-custodial wallet that the user controls.

Uniswaps native token, UNI, provides control over Uniswap governance and its community treasury, which enables holders of UNI tokens to vote and decide on key decisions regarding future upgrades and usage of treasury funds.
